Hello! My name is Sarah and I’m a graduate of the University of Washington with degrees in journalism and planetary science. I currently work as an outreach educator at the Pacific Science Center, traveling across the state of Washington to deliver interactive and hands-on STEM programming in a wide variety of K-8 environments.

As a scientist, my research interests center around the volcanic processes found on Venus and Mars and how those compare not only to geological activity found on Earth, but what we might expect to find one day on planets beyond our Solar system.

As a journalist, I blend my backgrounds in science communication and legislative reporting to focus on the intersections between policy, equity, and science (especially astronomy and geology). My award-winning explanatory stories answer important questions about the natural and societal systems that shape our world, and I aim to break down complex topics by making them inspirational and accessible to general audiences. I also write science fiction that reexamines classic staples of the genre through a queer lens.
